Shipping for Dummies

With the changing economic climate over the past couple of years, companies have had to go further away from their local markets to seek sales opportunities. With these new markets however come new rules and regulations in regards to shipping and exports. Controlled Goods, ITAR, Area Control List are but a few area's in which companies have to take notice.
To summarize these regulations, Controlled Goods explains the "how" and the ITAR explains the "what." ITAR stands for International Traffic in Arms Regulations and regulates items that are controlled by the Department of Foreign Affairs because of the military significance. The Controlled Goods Program on the other hand is controlled by Public Works and Government Services and governs how controlled goods will be handled by Canadian companies.
Regards if goods are not controlled under ITAR or Controlled Goods, there are countries that have Canadian embargo's. Visit http://laws-lois.justice.ca/eng/acts/E-19/ for an updated list.
As you can see there's more to selling overseas than meets the eye.
